The float trips I offer are one of the most beautiful and relaxing ways to experience western Montana. While drifting along a remote area of the river, one often gains a unique sense of freedom and solitude similar to those experienced by the early explorers, Lewis and Clark. Whether fishing for wild trout or hoping to catch a glimpse of a bear, eagle, beaver, bighorn sheep, or other riverside inhabitants, the float trip I offer provides one with a satisfying taste of frontier America.

The fishing on these rivers can be compared with some of the best found anywhere in the United States. The thrill of watching a gorgeous two-pound rainbow trout leaping several feet into the air as he strips off yards of line is a feeling you’ll not soon forget!

My float trips are designed for the discriminate fisherman who expects the best. We offer personal instruction, great food, good equipment and excellent fishing. These trips are perfect for the fly fisherman whether you are a beginner, or a seasoned veteran. We usually catch Rainbow, Cutthroat, and Brown trout averaging 14 to 22 inches.

The recipe for a perfect day of fishing includes a shore lunch fit for a king! The thinly shaved smoked turkey or honey cured ham is piled high with all the fixings, and condiments you need for that “deli-taste” miles from any delicatessen. Soft drinks and large variety of snacks are saved throughout the day.

The Bitterroot River

This river runs approximately 90 miles through the rugged Bitterroot mountain range. This river runs gin clear most of the year. It is my earliest river to fish the surface with a squala hatch in late March.

This river provides excellent Brown, Rainbow, Cutthroat varying in sizes 12"to as big as 28". We generally fish many different styles on this river because of the different species of trout. We use every thing from small dry flies on the surface, to large wooly buggers in the deep holes and log jams.

With the abundance of wildlife and beautiful scenery this river is suitable for both the beginner and the seasoned expert fly fisherman.

The Blackfoot River

The Blackfoot River is probably the most scenic of all three rivers. This is the famed river in the movie, "A River Runs Through It". It is also, an early season river with large streamers, and later this river produces thousands of trout throughout the summer on large dry flies.

This river has also the highest population of trout per linear mile than the other two rivers in this area.

This is probably the easiest river for the beginning fly fisherman while it still holds unlimited potential for most experienced fly fisherman.

The Clark Fork

The Clark Fork River is probably my favorite river in Montana. It is the longest in the state, starting around Butte and dumping into Lake Pend Oraille. This river has some of the most exciting, visual dry fly fishing in the US. Floating along side long tailing lines of foam you may see as many as 2,000 trout in a single day tailing and dorsaling right before your eyes.

This river starts off in March with the large green and gray drake hatches. Than moving into a golden stone fly hatch. As summer draws near we generally fish this river with light tippet and small dry flies, such as PMDs, blue dunes, hoppers and caddis. This brings us to the fall, our premier season for the fly fisherman.
In the fall we start the morning off with a very large tri-co hatch, and than moving right into a very large blue winged olive hatch. It is really something to see with the fall colors and abundance of wildlife. This may become your favorite river too.
